I have not been able to successfully get my new airport card to hook up with my third-party Linksys wireless router. I always get the message from the internet connect window,
"An error occurred while trying to join the selected airport network."
I am using an iBook/ OSX 10.2.1 (also tried in 9.2.2 with the exact same results) with the card and a Linksys Wireless-54G router (set to 802.11b mode) with security disabled.
I have gone over the instructions for setting up both the router and the iBook and the card settings. I swear I am doing everything correctly. The only time the airport status has shown that it is receiving a signal is if I go in and change the settings as if I'm making a computer-to-computer network.
In the Internet connect / Airport status window at the bottom it says Base Station ID: not available. Then when I go to select the router's network name (which shows up from the router SSID broadcast) it momentarily says Base Station ID: 44:44: 44:44: 44:44 (which means nothing to me) then the other error message comes up. Don't know if this has anything to do with anything but it's something I noticed.
There must be some simple thing I'm missing or not doing here for getting the Airport card to see the Linksys. Pretty sure it is not a router issue or setting as I went through everything with their tech support. They only know so much about Apple/Mac troubleshooting, though.
Anybody been here before? Otherwise suggestions?
Thanks, Mike
