<< I just installed a new 4.5 GB hard drive in my 7300. Got a little problem, though. It won't mount at bootup. SCSI Probe finds it no problem, so does Drive Setup. I managed to reformat it, update the drivers to OS 9.1, everything worked fine, if extremely slowly. Here's the particulars on the drive: Quantum Atlas IV 4.5 GB SCSI ID: 4 (This is weird, as it is jumpered via the instructions for ID 2) Jumpers engaged: Force Narrow (8 bit) mode, Force SE mode, Termination power on This is a 68 pin LVD drive, connected via a 68 pin to 50 pin adapter. Termination is activated (I guess) by the adapter. I don't know if thehigh-byte is terminated, as there is no instructions with the adapter, and I can't find anything online. The original Apple Seagate 2 GB drive is also connected in the Mac. I removed the Termination power, term power to bus, and termination jumpers. The Apple drive is connected between the logic board and the Quantum drive, with the Quantum on the end of the SCSI chain. . . . . >> Your drive may need active termination. I would not assume the adapter provides termination unless there is a termination jumper on the adapter. The Term Power jumper on the drive is not the same as SCSI termination. Perhaps a possible and easy solution would be to put the jumpers (accept for termination) back on the Seagate and place the Atlas in the middle of the SCSI chain with the Seagate at the end of the SCSI chain. I recall the internal SCSI cable in the 7300 can go either way between the top and bottom bays. Good luck --glen -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
