Paul, BEFORE you buy the Sonnet G4 card, go to their website and, if you
look long and hard enough, you'll find a small section about
'incompatiblities' between their G4 card and other hardwares. READ IT!
Also check out very helpful info and reviews to be found at XLR8yourmac.com

I had quite a shock when I installed my Sonnet G4/700 and suddenly found a
number of unplesant 'incompatiblities' with various pieces of my hardware,
and I walked a long and difficult path to get things working again the way
they did before! Mostly, the issues delt with my video cards (an old Radius
and an IXMicro card), and sudden problems with memory errors, causing LOTS
of random crashes and freezes (and corrupted files).

This Sonnet upgrade caused me, by far, the most problems I've ever had with
any of my Macs. Especially the memory issues.

Granted, it was my fault for not more throughly checking out the issues
first, but if I had known what I was about to go through-- forced to buy a
different video card, had to toss half of my memory, all of which worked
fine with the 225/G3 I'd used before, and corrupted drives and files which
caused me to waste a untold amounts of time trying (sometimes unsucessfully)
to revive them--I would have opted to save a little more money and bought a
used G4 Mac.

Now that the money and blood has been spent for the Sonnet G4, by God, I
WILL make the sucka work and earn its keep for the next year, but after
that, the move will be made to a real G4 (perhaps a G5??)
