Will a NewerTech G3 300 card work in a 8600/300? If so, would the G3 card
be faster than the stock 300 that is in the 8600 right now?

Well as long as the newertech card can fit into the daughtercard
slot, it should work. It should be MUCH faster than the stock 604e
processor Most g3 processors are about twice as fast . I recall
seeing a program that would benchmark a system based on several
others like older powermacs and newer powermacs but i cant recall
the name or seem to find it anywhere.

The 8600/300 is a Mach V "Kansas". Whether it will work or not, is a maybe... Some upgrade cards will either work or not, others will work but will cause all kinds of file, disk and memory problems. I think if it works, stability would be a major concern.

The search that I did found a couple of people that tested the card
in 9600/300 (also Mach V), one had fantastic results, the other
rather iffy. So I would that YMMV. Proceed with caution. At the
first signs of error messages, systems freezes, program quitting for
no reason... pull the card...
