Yesterday, I tried to get my PC Comp. card working in my 7300/200. The Mac is running OS 9.1, and has 256M RAM in it. The PC card (according to the BIOS) has a Pentium 166, and 16M of onboard RAM.
I started by downloading PCSetup 1.6.4 (I had 1.6.1), followed by PC Setup 2.1.7 (which is now freeware). I tried getting it to work with 1.6.4 first to no avail. Then I tried getting it to work 2.1.7, also with no luck. It seems that my drive containers aren't being recognized. As in I have no "c:". I thought that maybe it had to do with HFS+ formatting that OS 8.1 and up use (which could explain why these cards don't work properly with newer OSs?", so I added a 160M drive pulled from an LC550 to the works and tried using that as my drive container. Still no go. (little side note: would it have killed Apple to add another inch to SCSI and power cables for the HD's? it was difficult at best to hook the second drive up.) Also, is it common for the PC side to not recognize a floppy the first time you insert it? I don't know if it won't recognize it because I press the any key to continue before the floppy stops spinning, or what. This might be the whole problem here: My MS DOS disks seem to be a bit messed up. I insert the disk labelled Setup and the PC side boots to the Setup program and then gives me a beep and says "insert setup disk to continue" I'm guessing I need a new set of disks. Even still, won't I still have to have the hard drive container issue solved before I install MSDOS? Where else would it put it? I would appreciate any help with this, though what I'd like to know most is why I'm wanting to get this thing running. I have no software for MS-DOS, and very little for Windows. I don't plan on buying any anythime soon (though if I could find theRoadRunner game from 1989ish, I definitely would have to get this card running :) ) Also, I suppose if anyone does have help for me, and it regards entirely to using MS-DOS, that it should probably be offlist (opinons, ListNanny?). Regarding the card or the driver software, on or offlist would be great by me. I've tried to explain what I've tried as detailed as possible, if you need more info, please ask.
