Forgot to mention, to try installing the OS X using XPostFacto. Read the directions as they are very instructive! :-))
Had the dickens of a time trying to install X on a clean drive that had been formatted using OS X's set of drivers. It would install on that drive until I had first formatted from my OS 9 disk and installed OS 9 on it.
