The more ram you have, the longer the start up time. Don't confuse that with a dead battery. Give it a chance.
If you wish to turn off the ram check, hold your option key down while opening the memory control panel and you can see the place to turn that off.
I would still make sure the battery was good, it's an inexpensive thing to get..
