Just wondering if my daughtercard from my Powertower (200MHz 604e) will work in my 7300/200 and vice-versa?
They seem to be the same, and I know the accelerator cards are all the same for these machines and the PCI clones.
The daughtercard from your PT will work in your 7300. The daughtercard from your 7300 will not work in your PT. Nor will any Apple daughtercard, nor the Umax cards, nor some of the early PowerWave cards.
The PowerComputing (PCC) daughter cards for the Catalyst based machines require the DRTRY signal to be available on the card edge connector. The PCC cards supply that signal. The Apple cards and cards built to the Apple spec (Umax) do not supply that signal.
Some of the early cards for the PowerWave (and perhaps the PowerTower Pro?) also lack the DRTRY signal. This is because the PW and PTP are PowerSurge machines and not Catalyst machines so they don't need the DRTRY signal.
The third party accelerator companies are aware of the PCC requirement, so their cards supply the DRTRY signal, except G4 cards.
The G4 CPU does not supply a DRTRY signal, so G4 cards lack the DRTRY signal. I think the Sonnet G4/800 claims to work in the Catalyst machines, but my understanding is that they added some magic voodoo logic to the card to simulate the DRTRY signal. Other G4 cards do not work with the Catalyst machines.
Some early PPC604 and PPC604e accelerator cards will not work in the PCC Catalyst machines, because those cards came out before folks understood the Catalyst's special requirements.
The Catalyst based machines are the 7200, PowerCurve, PowerCenter, PowerTower, and PowerCenter Pro.
The PowerSurge machines are the x500, x600, 7300, PowerWave (PW), PowerTower Pro (PTP), Umax S900 and J700, and the Daystar Genesis.
