> Just to add my two cents worth...speed for speed the 604e processor cards
come very close to matching the speeds of the early G3 cards. Now if you
were talking a G4 accelerator, you would see significant speed increases
over a 604E and a G3

Just for the record, in my own experience my newly purchased 9600 604e 300 MHz though a snappy performer is not as fast as my 7600
with Sonnet G3 300 MHz accellerator given the same tasks.

And other other hand, she wore a glove....

Which is to say that when I replaced the 800 MHz 604e processor cluster (four 200 MHz 604e processors on a Daystar nPower card) in my Daystar Genesis 800 MP+ with a 800 MHz G4 processor I noticed a marked increase in speed in all processes including programs like Bryce and Photoshop that took full advantage of the multiple processor environment.

The 604e processor is a real workhorse but the G4 is like a racehorse.
