Let me chime in with my $.02... I was always under the impression that even a 233mhz G3 could outrun a 300mhz 604e/ev, because of the architecture. The cache design made all of the difference, I always thought.
I can attest that the g3's, even the early 200-300mhz varieties, pimp-slap the 200mhz 604e. ... as U can tell, I use the dreaded Ay-Oh-Hell as my ISP, and with a G3, starting it up takes about 5 seconds.
