I have a 7500, 7600 and 8500 as possible candidates for G3 or G4 upgrades with the carrier card. Does anyone know if the head sink from one of the original Apple processor cards can be used with the carrier and ZIF processor?
Here is a part of a message from back in March this year.
---------------- Anyway, I just bought a Lasagna Slim heatsink fan from Tennmax. Since it's only 10mm high it leaves plenty of room above. I had to remove the clips it came with but using the wire clips that came with the xlr8 card it's a good tight fit. According to Gauge Pro the processor is now running between 35-37C, whereas before it was running 50-52C with the 486 heatsink fan. It ran 48-50C with the original xlr8 heatsink fan. ----------------
I order one of these heatsink fans and was very sceptical about it's ability to do the job. With shipping I think it was less than $30. It has turned out to be one of the best $30 I've spent in a long time. I stuck in on a G3 ZIF on a carrier card and put it in a 7600. Keeps the processor at 34C (+ or -) 2C, and very quite. The power lead comes with a three pin conector, but for an additional 2.50 or so, they have the three to four pin pigtail. If you order it, you have to call them and make sure that you tell them that it is going in a Mac and you need thepower pigtail. You can get the phone number from the site, tennmax.com
