Early LC (Low Cost?) Mac drives were SCSI so they would go into your 8500.
To be sure count the No. of pins: 50 pin drives are SCSI.

LC (68020) LC II (68030) and LC III (68040) were SCSI as were all-in-one
LC550, 570s. My Performa 580 was IDE.

From the Apple Spec sheet on the LC580:


Floppy Size:    1.44MB
Floppy Inject:  manual
Min. Int HD Size:       500MB
Int HD Interface:       IDE
Orig CD Speed   2x
Int CD Support: yes
