OK, this is a Big Dumb Question, and please, don't take offense.
Is the monitor turned on?
I've done dumber things before
I( asked because I've done similar things. I once spent 3 hours trying to get AppleTalk working between a IIsi and a PB 165c. Things would have been a lot quicker had I plugged the cable into the serial port I THOUGHT I had it plugged into.
, but yes, the monitor is on and also responding to other computers...
OK, valuable data point. I assume that you also used the same cable, so that can be likely removed as a point of failure. Which indicates that there's something odd with the computer.
Open it up, if you haven't already, and look inside. (With the power off, of course.) I'm unfamiliar with your particular machine. I once had a Performa 6300CD that, for whatever reason, had a very touchy L2 cache card or an intermittent short near the cache card slot. Moving the card would cause the Mac to either work or not, depending on the initial state. I never did find the problem and wound up hanging the logic board on the wall as a decoration.
But I digress. There might be a trace of oxidation or dust on some contact that was jostled enough to cause a fault. Removing and replacing RAM, various internal power and data connectors, et al, might be profitable. I know that's how I fixed my "broken" color OneScanner a year or so ago.
One thing you MIGHT try, again, with power off, is to lift the front of the computer an inch or so and then drop it. Often a sharp shock can work wonders.
