Error Type 10 problems by asking me:

Good/bad news. I did it but still get a Finder error type 11. Took it a
step further and rebuilt the desktop. Now I get no error, but it hangs up
when I try to shut it down. I'll trash the prefs again and see if it makes
a difference.
