Thanks guys for the many - still-to-be-tried - fix suggestions. I'll check out some of these tonight (it's my g-friend's machine). I got her Norton but not the other s/w tools mentioned. I recall defragging her 6100 fairly often, I CANNOT imagine it's a defrag issue, but I've run into such occasionally on my PM8500 which I use much more heavily, not to mention my PCs which need it regularly.
