There was one SSE card, a ZIF carrier, and it was intended to solve the problems inherent in 9500s and 9600s, which have two PCI bridges. Other machines which can accept ZIF carriers all have three slots and only one PCI bridge. Where one gets into trouble is trying to use all six slots, particularly with six fast cards. In one pathological test case, I could get four UATA cards to work in a 9600 (or 9500, the issues are the same), but not five UATA cards.
