Don't know what you mean by a "plug-in board" but if you are thinking of 
something like those 'doze boxes use, you really don't need such a thing. 
Thare a LOT of Mac compatible serial port joysticks around. These days, I 
find them for a few $$ at GoodWill store outlets, usually in the jumble 
bins. They vary in complexity from simple ones with a couple of buttons 
to full flight control systems with pedals, throttle and stick with fire 
and other control buttons. You usually need the appropriate drivers to 
configure all the buttons but I have found them on the manufacurer's web 
sites.

As for the swap list, there must be some oddity with your mail server. 
Just make sure that you check mail and do the "confirm" mail response 
from the same mail address you use to subscribe.
