Out of curiosity, are you running it with Toast?

I have the same unit (purchased long ago on eBay) that runs fine on OS 9.1
and Toast 4.0.2. I took my burner from its factory external case and
replaced my internal CD drive with it. You might try swapping it into your
CD player's tray to see if the external cable or box have problems.

It uses the standard 50 pin SCSI 1 or 2 connection to the internal ribbon
cable. A standard 4 pin power connector and the standard SCSI ID
jumper/termination pins are next to the 50 pin connector. The sound in
cable is slightly different, but can be used with a modified audio cable.
