At a recent Premiere Pro Demo at the Pittsburgh SBE Exhibition we
were told that Apple would not provide the code needed for Premiere

That's *total* BS on the part of Adobe.

They had to get *the same code* in order to do After Effects 6.0, which IS still supported on the Mac.

Hell, they had to get the same code to do Photoshop CS...

Adobe bailed out of the fight between Avid Express and Apple Final Cut Pro, because they rightly saw that their product would be the one crushed, and between iMovie and Final Cut Express, they would have been in a tough fight at the low end, too.

Also isn't Pixar still run by Steve Jobs ? Why would he let Pixar use
 anything but a Mac ?

Because he's remained largely hands off of the technology at Pixar.

Pixar is FINALLY coming out with Renderman for OSX after a many-year absence (The last version of Renderman Mac recommended, iirc, a IIfx as a suggested system) when they used SGI systems and lately a mix of linux and SGI for rendering. They put in a gigantic linux-based renderfarm last year.

That's not to say the Mac has been absent at Pixar, there are large numbers of them there in use throughout the company, and have been all along, just not for their big-iron modelling and rendering systems.
