i own a 8600/250 and have the opportunity of upgrading it to either a g3 or g4. what are the differences between those, is it worth paying double just to get a g4 ?
i am new to mac world, excuse the "newbieness" of the question.
I would guess not. If you have a SPECIFIC manufacturer of G3 or G4 upgrades in mind you can probably find information and comparison tests on the XLR8 or Sonnet or PowerLogix sites on the internet.
The 400 Mhz G3 Sonnet PCI upgrade card with the 1Meg cache is a very sweet upgrade, as is the Sonnet 800 Mhz G4 card. If you just want G3 compatibility and want to run Jaguar the G3 card is plenty good enough. The G4 card is definitely not worth twice the price of the G3 card...
those are the cards i'm talking about. and i want to run linux :D the [EMAIL PROTECTED] costs $256 while the [EMAIL PROTECTED] costs 371
