I was wondering if any one has had any luck with Samba or Open Office in Jaguar. I have a few PC's on my network. I can see them in my network connections and get files from them. But, I don't see my Mac in their network places. Can Samba be configured to allow sharing in both directions?
You have to check the Windows File Sharing box in Sharing preference panel. Then the PC's may not see it unless you manually enter the system as nin Start-> run> \\<macs ip address>\<share name>
Also, I downloaded and installed Open Office. But when I tried to launch it, nothing happened. The Open Office web site said they are close to releasing a version that works in the Mac GUI, rather than X11. Any thoughts on either subject would be greatly appreciated.
Close as in 'sometime in the future on a geological scale'. The native port is waiting on the complete rewrite for Open Office 2.0, alas, and isn't expected until sometime in 2004.
That said it takes a while for it to start up on my system, but it does run in Apple's X11 client.
