So, I deserve to be whacked over the head. Now that we've got that out of the way, I'm hoping for some help, not derision.
I was experiencing some trouble with my PCI Mac last week. OS 9.0.4 was giving me all sorts of little problems. So I decided to upgrade to 9.1. Now, I didn't have an OS 9.1 upgrade CD, install disk, or even the online download for upgrade purposes. What I had was a working OS 9.1 system on another hard drive, an external one. So I just copied the Finder, System, and a whole mess of extensions and control panels. And my computer worked just fine! The old problem went away. It became a much more stable system. But with a hitch: Now, no visual Web browser works properly, Outlook Express doesn't work at all (it collapses on open), and even Finder Mail (my favorite low-key email program) won't send messages! Some extension is probably the culprit. But perhaps it's something else. Any ideas? I have back-ups of OS 9.0.4. I can make a better back-up of the working 9.1 (it's on another working PCI Mac, almost identical to mine, but with less memory). I have start-up disks for 8.5. What should I do now? timo(thy) P.S. Mozilla won't display any browser, and iCab shows gobbledygook. Explorer opens up and "displays" a page, but special characters are rendered completely wrong, it screws up tables, and pages with lots of pictures just show up as garble. I've been reduced to using WannaBePPC for research. Not a bad reduction, but I can't do any real business with it. Just read simple pages. That's the story, pretty much as it is. danke, t -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
