well audion does not work for me - it can perform some tasks but when making mp3s there is a period of static noise at the beginning of each mp3, vut the direct audio in - > mp3 function works well. you can download the lame mp3 encoder alone its called DropMP3 ALTIVEC PPC, there was also some time ago a way to make iTunes use Lame, but I forgot where to find it. there is also a patch to make iTunes work with 8.6 and Blade Encoder will work as far back as OS 7 - it makes just mp3s and nothing else and is freeware.
