PCI PowerMac Folks, I finally have my PMM8500 talking to the new HP 3520 Deskjet printer -- ALMOST!
Rather than rant, I will simply copy here the email I sent to HP tech support: > Configuration: PowerMac 8500, Belkin USB/PCI Card, Mac OS 9.1, USB Adapter > Card Support 1.4.1, Classic hp inkjet installer" of 7/2/2003 or "hp injet > installer 2.2.1a" of 4/16/2003 (both of which install hp inket 6.1.1 and > related utilities). > > The install proceeds (apparently) normally, ending in a prompt for a restart. > After restart, the "hp printer selector.app" runs. The printer shows up with > its serial number. Following the prompt, I click "Utilities". HP printer > utilities launches. I run the "Test" page successfully. I can go to the > "Align" panel, and run the first align page. After entering the results in > the drop-downs, I click "Verify". A progress bar appears, lasts about a > minute, then disappears, but no verify page is printed. I can then do the > "Test" page again, but "Align" gives the same result. > > If I reboot, the hp printer engine" launches at startup, then a dialog box > appears with a greyed-out "Stop" icon and an OK button-- and no text at all. > At this point, the system freezes and I can only force-reboot. > > I suspect a conflict between the 6.1.1 driver and something else in the > system. Using "Conflict Catcher", I reran the test with only Apple Mac OS 9.1 > extensions (and USB Adapter Card Support 1.4.1) loaded, with the same result. > > Can you tell me if there are any known extension or other software conflicts > for configurations like mine? Are there other driver versions I should try? > I noticed that even the "Classic" installer is full of references to OS X; is > there a "pure" Mac OS 9 installer that might work? > > Please get back to me quickly; this printer is a gift to my wife, and it was > intended to be a joy, not a nightmare. > > Thank you. > > -- Joshua Yeidel > I would appreciate any ideas you folks might come up with -- I've been bashing at it for about 12 hours, and I don't know what to try next.
