I believe if you hold the option and command keys while opening the memory control panel, you can disable the ram check at start function.
Some one will correct me if I'm wrong about which keys
If you are talking about a cold start, then it's almost certainly the built-in memory check.
When I added memory to my 8600 the startup time increased dramatically. Now it;s about a minute before the monitor lights up and around 3 1/2 minutes to get to the OS 9 desktop.
Did you try using the install CD to boot since it usually comes up at a fix monitor resolution?
If it works, Then you could go into the monitors control panel on the hard drive.
I had this problem once also. I just switched the monitor over to the rage card and reset the resolution.
It was my monitor that I use for testing used machines. Also did you try zapping the pram or pressing the cuda? since this resets a lot of preferences also.
My just-acquired 9600 came with an Applevision 1710 monitor that has an ADB pigtail on the connector. When I first fired it up it worked fine, then I changed to a higher resolution and the screen went black. I can't can't seem to get it to work right now. If I boot with the ADB connector plugged in, the screen stays black. It goes through the boot process and all, but I get no picture. If I power the monitor on and off from the front panel after it's booted and the screen is black, I can see a momentary flicker of the desktop when I flick the monitor on and off, but can't get it to stick on. If I boot up with the ADB connector unplugged I can get an image, but only at 640 x 480 resolution.
Any thoughts on how to proceed?
