I've found that using cleaning chemicals like windex, etc. than have ammonia in them will cause major discoloration over time. Definately stay away from any products containing ammonia.

If your machine is in a smoke environment then you can probably clean some of the discoloration off. If its from sunlight the plastic has been chemically changed so you can either paint it or use a chemical that will bleach some of its pigment out and/or remove the surface layers of plastic. There is nothing that will bring the system back to its original color and texture that I know about. I wonder if its the UV lighting found in most buildings that changes the color or just intense direct sunlight from a window facing the sun when it rises. I haven't really noticed plastic yellow in my house even on things in use or left out for a decade but did notice older cars had plastic crumble to dust (older cars with plastic that didn't have inhibitors for direct sunlight during the 1980's). I think it also has to do with the type of plastic used. My old PM8500 had yellowing when I got it, which sucks even more because the plastic faceplate is a different shade then the painted metal cover so it really shows up. Do what I did and get a new case, this will also be better because if your case is yellowed bad it is probably brittle and delicate parts will end up breaking like mine did (power switch and PCI card retaining clips in the 8500).
