I transferred all the settings to the 9600 running 8.1, and everything seems to connect fine. Open transport PPP status monitor shows a connection as does the internet dialer but IE 5.1 can't find any URLS.
The DHCP client in Mac OS 8.1 / OT 1.3 (and the portion used therein by PPP) is broken. It will often fail to properly pick up the domain name server addresses. Try inputting them manually, in the TCP/IP control panel.
Can I transplant the Apple Remote Access extension from 8.5.1 to 8.1.? I find it far less confusing than the 8.1 configuarion stuff.
No; incompatible vers of Open Transport.
