The lister said he has Eudora set to delete mail from the server as it is downloaded. After a recent crash he got the 7000 messages dating back 2 years.
He didn't know where they came from.. I suggested from experience that he had older Eudora files scattered around and probably one whale of a mail file somewhere. And that Eudora was somehow putting duplicates there. The crash and subsequent reboot scrambled things as they did for me in a past experience. The lister admitted having old versions of Eudora but didn't seem to think that was the problem. I don't know if he purged them or not.

Just done it still had 5.0.

The lister must have a huge hard drive

36Gb, with 768mb of RAM (took 768 out to see if the gremlins were caused by interleaving... they were not).

to not miss the space 7000 messages would take up. And I imagine there was a lot of unnoticed time wasted while Eudora passed along duplicate files . (we still haven't figured that one out ) .
