Could one remove the installed HD, or add an additional with USB 2.0 connector?

I imagine if there is room inside to put a bare drive or small housing, with a powered USB connector? Why not?

I've never looked at one. But assume a "USB drive" requires some sort of interface card to be installed. That is,
these drives are really IDE. Do they require a power brick or could a tap off the PSU work. (correct voltage ?)
