IDE disks are set from master to slave via jumpers on the disk itself. There's no such thing as a 'slave' cable. Yiu can only connect two drives to an IDE stream (though iirc, a lot of IDE macs fail to see secondard drives, something Apple didn;t fix until at least the last grey G3's.) One drive *ust* be set to master and one drive *must* be set to slave. Not doing so makes for a really unstable, if not unbootable, system. You'll not see at least one of the drives too, as they will both be fighting for the same position in the IDE chain. To be 100% honest, it sounds like the partition map has been corrupt and that unless the poster can find a way to rewrite it, they are not going to have an awful amount of luck. Mave you considered using a LINUX based partitioning tool to recreate the partitions? This might work for recovery purposes. If you can make the partitions sort of in the right sectors of the disk, you may be able to see the partitions, but reliability might be pretty bad. You'd need a reformat after recovering the files. Also, if the data is critical, consider taking it to the pro's. There are plentry of companies that do this kind of thing professionally.
