Hi folks.
Sys 8.6, 8500/120, 224 MB RAM. Internet Explorer 5.1.7.
I have had a problem with IE freezing for 10-15 seconds periodically when browsing. The "busy wheel" will freeze but I can still move it around with the mouse. No page updates will occur, but sometimes the mouseclicks that I make (as I get frustrated and start clicking on stuff!) will be stored and executed once the freeze is over. This used to happen when I was connected via AOL and now it still happens with DSL. I reinstalled IE, still same problem. Any clues? Maybe something about my cache settings?
On a related note, I have iCab, but I can't make it work. Just doesn't see my internet connection. I can't seem to find in the help files any clues. I know it's probably in there, but I can't see it. There must be some simple setting that I have wrong, but I don't know what.
Thanks in advance, oob
I have used iCab a lot and it has always worked well. When I switched from dial-up to DSL, I did not have to change anything in iCab. If your connection works with IE, it should work with iCab.
I suspect those freezes that you are seeing is from IE rendering the page. DSL isn't going to change that part. I have an 8600/G4, a 5400/120, and a Performa 575 all connected to the same DSL line and you can definitely see the difference.
When the Performa was my main system for browsing, I tried a variety of tricks to help it. The most effective was not downloading images until I need them.
