Well, as it turns out, I lost all the data on my drive. Somehow, the master directory blocks became so corrupted that, even though Data Rescue retrieved about 95% of the data, none of the data was usable.
Fine, I learned an important lesson. I'll be backing up everything from here on. I have no way of proving it but I'm convinced that the Sonnet Processor Upgrade extension played a large role in what happened as the computer repeatedly froze during start up when it tried to load that extension. FWIW, here's what I have: PM8600/300 (bought her new in 1997), Sonnet Crescendo G4/800 upgrade, Sonnet Tempo ATA 133 IDE controller card, Seagate Barracuda 80GB HD on bus 1, Lite On 52x CD-R/CD-RW on bus 2, Belkin USB card, ATI Radeon 7000 video card, 768MB RAM, Running OS 9.1 w/the OpenGL bits from 9.2.2. Anyway, as much fun as I've had trying to speed up and upgrade the old 8600. I think I'm going to grab one of those G4 Powermacs that will still boot OS9 before they disappear. This list has been of immense help to me and I thank all of you. John -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
