I've been wondering what the improvements are there in OS 9.2.
Mac OS 9.2.2 contains *hundreds* of bug fixes beyond 9.0/9.1. The release notes give the highlights. See the full developer notes for the rest.
The most imporant improvements, IMO:
Updated Font Manager. Improved ColorSync. Faster and more stable Finder. Faster and more stable TCP/IP stack. Fixed DHCP client, finally!!!!!
Mac OS 9.2.2 runs *fast* on a PowerMac 7300/180. My benchmarks showed it to be generally on par with OS 8.6, with disk performance being about 4% faster.
Putting OS 9.2.2 on my PowerMacs has been the best upgrade I've done in years.
But remember that you can screw any Mac if you don't have enough RAM or insist on running ancient Extensions...
