1) Does having one unmatched stick in there throw
interleaving out the window for the rest of the load?

Yes. You must have 100% matched pairs for interleaving to work.



2) How would people suggest I load this RAM? A/B 6 down towards A/B 1 or from A/B 1 on up? Where should the unmatched stick go?

A/B 1 on up. I'd leave the unmatched stick out.


3) Any explanations for the flakey video behavior when
VM is not set at 1 above the physical memory?
My only thought that it might have something to do with the fact that your computer might use the RAM as the VRAM. What is your video device? If you use an add-on card you most likely do not use the RAM as VRAM.
