One of the established Mac parts sellers is offering Adaptec 2930 Power Domain SCSI cards for $15 USD and a 2940U2B PCI Ultra-2 card with link to firmware update for the Mac for $25.
The cards would be used in a 7500 and a 7300 both presently running OS 8.6 and 9.1 with two hard drives on the internal 10MB/sec bus. The 7300 also has OS X 10.1.5 on the second drive. First will these cards work OK in these machines? I realize the read/write performance of either card in these old machines will most likely be similar. Second, when I can afford to upgrade my PCI Macs to a B&W or a native G4 Mac and newer version of OS X will I still be able to transplant these cards into the new machine(s)? Further, with that future B&W or G4 would the 2940 offer a greater performance gain given the proper hard drives and cables; assuming the card is compatible.
