One of my clients... his wife gave his "computer bedroom" a makeover while he was out of town. Now his HDs are on individual knick-knack shelves, spread across the wall! And each has its own beanie baby sitting on top!

How long of a cable can the FireWire drives use? I've only used FireWire for camera control so far.
400 Mbps firewire cables can be up to 4.5m (14+ ft) between each device.
The spec says that with a repeater, you can go to 10m (32 ft) long cables, but I'm told that's iffy.
