My daughter is running AIM4.3 on a 7500/G3-275Mhz/OS9.1. The IM
function works fine but the chat room and file transfer options lock up
the Mac. I tried running the latest version that's supposed to be
compatible, according to the AOL/AIM Web site, AIM4.7 (I'm pretty sure
these are the correct version #s, I'm not near the machines right now to
be sure), but it would only get to the splash screen and lock up.

Does anyone have a solution to this? Are there any known extension
conflicts, etc... to this software on OS 9.1?

I have the same difficulties with AOL's IM client, under OS 9.2.2. My current solution is to use AIMM, a simple/minimalistic chat app, to talk to AOLers and IRC for the rest.

AIMM is available at http://www.MacUpdate.com/info.php/id/5360

AIM 4.3.1232 was stable for one-off messages and the voice/talk feature, but the other features crashed due to memory leaks.

AIM 4.5.995, the 4.6 betas, and the 4.7 betas all hung during the initial launch or sign-on.

AIM 4.7.1333 (the latest public release) works sometimes. It crashes when I select Edit/My Account.

At this point, I've submitted dozens of reports, including stdlogs. Some guy from AOL has tried to send me "special test versions" of AIM, but apparently he doesn't know how to send attachments.

FWIW,
- Dan.
