If its mounted externally it must be the SCSI cable. Try contact cleaner - it works most of the time for me. Sometimes you need to place a terminator on the device. Make sure you disable all extensions except Apple CD/DVD driver, Foreign File Access, and Toast Reader. Increase memory buffer to at least 32 MB under Toast Preferences.
