I have a G3-300 desktop and I want to upgrade it to be faster and run X on it.
I have heard several people with G3 B&Ws and G4s make arguments that you're smarter to buy one of those machines than upgrade the CPU in a G3-300. I am interested in hearing from people who have gone both routes. Price is an issue for me, so it's probably cheaper to throw a bigger cpu in there and a firewire/usb card, rather than upgrade actual computers. On the other hand, I must confess that I love the look and style of the B&Ws (and all the rest of the new macs), as well as the included usb, etc. Given an equivalent G3 processor, say a 450, how noticeable is the bigger bus in the B&W? Also, is there any particular configuration of B&W to look for (or avoid) and I am interested in hearing from someone who's stuffed a 700 mhz processor or bigger into their G3 beige. Are there any noticeable handicaps when running X? Thanks for any info Tom -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
