Hi....I have a Sonnet G4/500 card in my Beige G3 DT w/768mb RAM/OS 9.2.2. It
exhibits very similar behavior regarding sleep as yours. I tried to track
the problem down for a while but since the performance otherwise is
rock-solid, I just live with shutting it down when I'm through.  Mikie
