How much free disk space do you have on your boot drive?

That may not have been THE problem but it is A problem if that's all the free space you have before turning on 1.001G VM. The system will want to reserve an equal amount of disk space.

With 1 gig of RAM you don't need VM. IMHO, you do need a bigger, faster HD.
