It is quite obvious that people should not include endlessly repeated long
footers. The idea of editing posts to say what is essential is a fairly
objective matter. Sometimes some commonsense is required to know whether to
include all the previous to and fro's (if it is a long running post, closely
related time-wise, then no is the common sense way).

As for what should be discussed, this is defined pretty well in the rules of
this group. You seem to favour a purely technical list, fine, I could live
with such. But who really favours letting folk never bothering to edit?

As for a more purely "technical" direction, it is fun sometimes for people
to make jokes, to rave on this or that, to vent some gripes against
practices that impinge on their continued enjoyment of PCI Macs and so on. I
think the list nannies do an overall good job, sometimes in difficult
circumstances, to control things, and sensibly let some things roll a while.

Again the thread here has been contaminated by attributing the second
part of what you included to me when it was actually someone else who
complained about the off topic messages.. This was compounded by
the inclusion being put at the end of your post.

My post was about the failure to change the subject line when the
thread is spunoff. No matter how slight a change of subject the
subject line should be modified in order to reflect the directional
adjustment. Not doing this leads to endlessly confused threads and a
lot of miscommunication. And has in my case sometimes resulted in my
own cry for help being co-opted and spun off so bad I never did get
the help needed.. I have seen this happen with other lister's posts
also.

It is perfectly fine to include a joke now and again as long as it is
not the entire content of the post. Also discussing how the list is
run or lister's practices in posting is ok as long as it is
constructive. And does not lead to flaming. Endless bickering over
opinions or prating against PCs etc
is not only a waste of time but very boring after so many years.

A lot more tolerance has been shown on the list in the past year.
And it gives more leeway. and yet the list has not become either
chaotic or stagnant.
that's an accomplishment ! Many listers have moved on to newer
machines and left the list and still new ones appear. PCI Macs
should be around for a while yet.

I said month's ago and repeat it here this is a great list. I wish
there was a list this great to help me with all of the other
technical and not so technical areas of activities and interests in
my life.

Too bad there's not a Low End Bikes, Low End Digital Video and Low
End RC Model Airplanes too ! Well you get the idea. And maybe
someday there will be !
