It is quite obvious that people should not include endlessly repeated long
footers. The idea of editing posts to say what is essential is a fairly
objective matter. Sometimes some commonsense is required to know whether to
include all the previous to and fro's (if it is a long running post, closely
related time-wise, then no is the common sense way).

As for what should be discussed, this is defined pretty well in the rules of
this group. You seem to favour a purely technical list, fine, I could live
with such. But who really favours letting folk never bothering to edit?

As for a more purely "technical" direction, it is fun sometimes for people
to make jokes, to rave on this or that, to vent some gripes against
practices that impinge on their continued enjoyment of PCI Macs and so on. I
think the list nannies do an overall good job, sometimes in difficult
circumstances, to control things, and sensibly let some things roll a while.
