For what it's worth, I get 48000 with my Best Data 56K
with a BD driver on a PM7500. I used to get varying
speeds (one day actually got 14400 - no, seriously!).

I fussed about the lines while trying to get Broadband
because the cable modem could never get a signal.
Whatever they did really cleaned up the line, so I
never get anything less than 48K now.

Again, line quality really <does> makes a difference.
