   You need to get version 2.6.2 of Free PPP, it will turn the modem sound
on and off without using the INIT string, and you can change the Port Speed,
up to 230,400.  It makes my 33.6 SupraExpress external modem scream,
attached to a PM 7100/80av, and OS 8.1.
