You could easily get by with the 180/200 MHz logic board with 128 MB RAM for the uses you mentioned. I have a 225MHz 5500 logic board in a LC 580 and it runs good for what it is, but maxing the RAM is highly recommended.
Hey, yeah! THANKS for answering a nagging question for me...
I remember at one time knowing that the 5500 (and similar) mobos could modify
several lesser PMacs, and a few 68k all-in-ones. I have a 225mhz in my Color
Classic, but I was miffed when I learned that it would not go into a LC 575.
NOW I remember...the LC 580 can be modified!
I wanted a PPC LC575 also for the Trinitron monitor but the LC580 was a better option.
Check out this web page I put together on swapping the boards on an LC580:

Now, back on-topic...
Biggest cheapest ? go with a VGA monitor, they are cheaper but they are
harder to find in larger sizes.
Of the 2 you mentioned I would go with the Apple monitor for your uses,
but it's kinda overkill unless you can get it cheap. Add a PCI video
card and use 2 17 inch monitors, they are getting cheap and it's a nice
set-up having 2 landscaped 17 inch monitors.
Man, U're full of great ideas! The double-monitor setup never occurred to me!
THAT is the way I want to go now...
But how would a TV signal look on that? Would it just go to the main monitor?
If your using Apple Video Player it will only work on the main monitor (built in video) if I remember correctly. I even tried video mirroring but could not get it to work with Apple Video Player and the TV tuner card. My current TV Mac is a Performa 630CD and only has one monitor. BTW the 630cd will also accept a 5500 board.
Thanks again!
