Hi,
I may have asked this question before, if I have forgive me. I have a 9600/G4 700 with 312mb of ram. An ATI mac 7000, a sonnet ATA100 card, with OS 9.2.2 and OS 10.2.8 installed on a seperate hard drive. The installation of OS X went fine, but whenever I try to use a program that came with OS X, the program starts and then errors out. Yet if I use a program that I downloaded and installed they work fine. The mail program barely starts, as well as others. But Safari will work until I try and type something in for a search or something like that. I ran the disk utility and checked and repaired the permissions, but still nothing.
Something is seriously hosed with your OS X install. I'd nuke the drive and start over on a freshly formatted disk.
