Dear all,

I've got a iBook CD with OS 9.2.2 on it, I'd like to update/format my 9600 running OS8
with it.

However when booting up from it, it says 'this CD not for this system' type of message.

Fair enough, just wondered if anyone has a work round or patch to get it working?

The other issue is that 9.2.2 does not install on PCI Macs without OS 9 Helper. You need a 9 or 9.1 CD and the 9.2.1 and 9.2.2 update downloads from Apple's site. Install OS 9 from the CD then use OS 9 Helper to upgrade to 9.2.1 then 9.2.2.

I've been lucky using system specific CDs: A Power Mac G3 8.5 CD worked on my 7500 and 9600 while an iMac OS X 10.1 CD works on my Digital Audio G4. But it is a crapshoot as someone else mentioned. What definately won't work are the system-specific Restore CDs.
