I have a G3 9600/300 that has OS8.6 on TWO internal 4-Gig hard drives.
I put a floppy disk into the computer and it took FOREVER to appear on the Desktop and then I could not run the installer script on it or copy it to a Folder on the Desktop without getting a Disk Error. I tried it with four different disks. I got the same results.

If I remember correctly, I fixed this problem a few times by thashing the Finder Preferences file.
