My Performan 3260 would not completely open so I used a OS disk and found the
computer did not recognize the hard drive. There was no ? flashing, so any
idea as to what might be going on with it.

I could not find a model listing for a Performa 3260. Is it a PCI Mac ? Or a NuBus Mac ? What OS are you using ? SCSI or IDE/ATA ?

Are the Hard drive pins and sockets clean and tight ? Cable inspected for damage ? Did you rescan the bus ?

Try booting with extensions off and using disk First Aid , zapping the PRAM, rebuilding the desktop, trashing finder prefs and all of the other usual routines.
